Splash Mill - Self-catering
The Windmill is regularly used for film shoots and has featured in several magazine and newspaper articles. The most recent of these was in “House Beautiful” magazine in July 2004.
It was subject to a “makeover” in September 2004 which was screened on Granada Television's “60 Minute Makeover” programme in February 2005. A video of this programme is available for guests to watch.
It is well known as a landmark by pilots travelling to Heathrow Airport which is 5 miles away.
Considerable refurbishing has taken place since then and the Windmill is now a romantic and totally unique place to stay.
Accommodation
The accommodation ranges over 4 floors: The main entrance is through a stable door into the galley kitchen with butcher's block work surfaces and a Butler's sink. Double-oven electric cooker, microwave and fridge add the modern conveniences.
Two steps up and down again lead into the Lounge with dining area furnished with comfortable chairs, sofa, large TV with Digi-Box, video and DVD player, I-Pod dock with CD player and a mahogany dining table.
Access from the Lounge leads to a back door with porch and a shower room with w.c and wash basin.
The first floor has access to a walkway which runs around the exterior of the building with outdoor tables and seating. As the Mill overlooks The Bowling Club Green weekend matches can be enjoyed from an excellent vantage point!
The largest bedroom is on this floor with a king-size four poster bed with drapes – The Rose Room.
Stairs up lead to the 2nd floor and a bathroom with bath/shower, w.c. and wash basin.
Access from the landing leads to The Regal Room – a double-bedded room furnished in old pine with navy and gold heraldic crested bed drapes.
A further stair case inside this room goes to the third floor – the Attic Room- which can be used as additional dressing or sitting space or as another bedroom. This room contains a standard single bed with an additional full size single bed underneath which rises up to full height. These can be used as a single or a twin. Before booking this please consider the access through The Regal Room which will impede the privacy of the occupants!
Full central heating is installed throughout and hot water is available at all times.
Car parking is off road and shared with the other properties. Additional car parking is available in the free public car park next door.
Hairdryers and all linen is supplied - the beds are made with crisp white linen from a linen hire company.
Free Wi-Fi is available.
A Welcome Hamper of breakfast food is provided for guests on arrival.
Terms and conditions
Incoming and emergency outgoing calls telephones are located in the Lounge, The Rose Room and in the top occasional room.
It is very important that guests realise that this is a wooden structure and that smoking, and sadly, the use of naked flames such as candles are strictly not permitted. Ashtrays are provided for outside use.
A full fire alarm with emergency lighting has been installed together with fire extinguishers on every floor. A fire blanket is provided in the kitchen area. Additionally the building has a manually operated water reservoir between every floor to flood the building in the case of fire.
Please also note that there are a considerable number of gaps in the internal structure – placed there by design- and as such is not soundproofed between floors. Due to this The Windmill is suitable only for family members or friends and must be used as one unit.
The very top floor of the building contains the machinery for turning the entire top turret. The entire building was designed as a Windmill and as such will sway in high winds. Please be aware of this if you are subject to seasickness. It is, however, totally safe!
Sadly due to the steep staircases The Windmill is not suitable for those who are unable to manage uneven open plan staircases.
Children under the age of 10 years are restricted for safety reasons. Please, even adults, be aware that the sweet little stream that runs along the property looks very shallow but is extremely deep and full of thick mud as I discovered last Summer!
The Windmill is not able to accommodate pets.
During the Winter months from 1st November to 30th April Splash Windmill is charged as one unit at £150 per night with a minimum stay requirement of two nights or £840 for stays of seven nights. During the Summer months from 1st May to 31st October the Mill is available at £180 per night; £1080 per week. Minimum stay 1 week. Shorter stays will be considered if the property is unbooked close to the required date.
The maximum number of guests is six with a minimum age of ten years. Special prices may apply for smaller parties. Please ask.
All bookings must be accompanied by a valid credit card.
All damages will be charged to the credit card.
A 50% non-refundable, non-negotiable deposit will be charged at time of booking with the remaining 50% payable on arrival and subject to a seven day cancellation period.
Advance bookings will only be taken a maximum of three months prior to your stay.
Arrival times: 5.00 pm -7.00 pm or earlier by prior arrangement.
As Splash Windmill is run under the auspices of a local Bed and Breakfast establishment at The Oast Barn, Staines Road, Wraysbury, TW19 5BS all guests are asked to come to this address to meet Sylvia, the Proprietor to check in. I will then take them to Splash Windmill.
